Beware! Read the Labels!

For those of you who work with me, you know I am not a fan of ANY packaged foods. There is a reason they can sit on the shelf for very long periods of time and why I consider them dead nutrients. With the New Year, I have several clients working through an elimination and detoxification protocol. Ten days into it with the 7 common food allergies (corn, wheat, sugar, dairy, eggs, peanuts and soy) gone from their food intake, one of my clients called me today with a report of making chicken soup using what she thought would be alright due to the front labeling claiming “gluten free”.  After ingesting a nice bowl of this soup, she immediately started experiencing gas, bloating and general intestinal discomfort. This prompted her to turn the label over and read the small print:

Ingredients: SWEETENER (SUGAR AND/OR DEXTROSE,)POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, ONION POWDER,MALTODEXTRIN, MONOAMMONIUM GLUTAMATE, GELATIN, CHICKEN FAT (CONTAINS PROPYLENE GLYCOL, TBHQ AND CITRIC ACID), EXTRACTIVE OF TURMERIC, NATURAL FLAVORING, DISODIUM INOSINATE, DISODIUM GUANYLATE.

OMG, SUGAR is the FIRST ingredient never mind the nasty, unrecognizable list that follows. When trying to restore your health, stick to real food that will rot if you left it on your counter! We will continue on and get her back on track to continue the elimination protocol but so far, 4 hours later, she is still uncomfortable with these nasty chemicals!
